Coboconk has long been known as the home of Canada's smallest jail although that is far from the whole story. Coboconk is a hub for cottagers and visitors to Balsam Lake Provincial Park.  It is affectionately referred to by locals as "Coby".

With a population of 800 Coboconk is also the highest point of navigable fresh waters in the world. Balsam Lake (Coboconk) is the Summit of the Trent Severn Waterway with a height of 256.3 meters. Balsam Lake is highest point in North America from which you can circumnavigate the world.
